The X chromosome - carrying sperm are said to :

1.be slower than the Y-chromosome carrying sperm.

2.be better able to withstand the acidic cervical environment before fertile cervical fluid is produced.

Based on these premises, according to Shettles, you can time intercourse, choose a sexual position that favors conception of your preferred sex and influence the reproductive environment to increase the likelihood of conceiving your preferred sex. These are the suggestions from Dr. Shettles :

1.Time intercourse as close to ovulation as possible: The idea is that since the Y-chromosome sperm are faster than the X-chromosome sperm, there will be more Y-chromosome sperm who reach the egg, making it more likely that a Y-chromosome carrying sperm will fertilize the egg.

2.Abstain from intercourse for four to five days prior to ovulation. Have intercourse only just at the time of ovulation and just before.

3.Have intercourse that allows for deep penetration. Shettles recommends rear-entry (aka, “doggy-style”). The idea is that the sperm will be deposited closer to the cervix where cervical fluid is most friendly to the Y-chromosome sperm and where the “boy sperm” are more likely to survive since there is less distance to travel.

4.Men avoid tight clothes: heat kills off both types of sperm, but will kill off the less protected, smaller Y-chromosome sperm faster, according to Shettles.

5.Women have an orgasm: According to Shettles, female orgasm increases the alkaline secretions in the vagina that are favorable to the Y-chromosome carrying sperm. Shettles recommends having an orgasm before or at the same time as the male partner.

Shettles Method Succes Rate To Have A Boy Or A girl

The Shettles method for girls aims to time sexual intercourse for the 2 to 4 days before ovulation. This is based on the theory that 'girl' sperm are 'slower' swimmers and not likely to 'beat' the boy sperm to fertilise the egg first, but that 'girl' sperm are more resilient and have more 'staying power'. If sex is timed well before ovulation, the 'boy' sperm are thought to be more likely to die off, leaving the girl sperm to 'lay in waiting' for the egg to be released. The Shettles method for girls also takes into account that 'girl' sperm may prefer the more natural acidic environment of the woman's vagina. The method claims a 75% success rate. However, the few, small studies done so far have been unable to support these claims.

It is possible for sperm to survive for up to 6 days before ovulation and still fertilise an egg to conceive a pregnancy. However, the closer to ovulation sex occurs, the more likely a pregnancy of a baby of any sex (let alone a baby girl) will occur. For some women, sex 4 days away from ovulation may be too far away to achieve a pregnancy at all. Therefore, couples using the girl method may need to consider that it may take longer to become pregnant. It is for this reason that the Shettles method for girls recommends stopping intercourse by days 4 or 3 before ovulation but if after a few months a pregnancy does not result, then slowly bringing this timing closer to ovulation, but still avoiding having sex on the actual day of ovulation (to theoretically reduce the chances of having a boy).

To understand the following outline you may need to review the information about charting the woman's menstrual cycle and the physical signs relating to ovulation in Class A. As a broad overview, the Shettles method for having girls recommends :

1.Having intercourse daily without condoms from the time bleeding stops after the woman's menstrual period, up until day 4 or 3 before the suspected time of ovulation. Daily intercourse is thought to diminish the man's sperm count to favour 'girl' sperm. If after a few months conception does not occur, the timing may be brought forward to 2 ½ to 2 days before ovulation.

2.Abstain from sex completely during ovulation and for a few days after ovulation. This means the woman should not be aroused, releasing alkaline secretions that may encourage 'boy' sperm.

3.Allowing sexual intercourse from a few days after ovulation, up until the next menstrual period, but using condoms to be on the safe side.

Other additional words of advice include :

A.The woman should avoid having an orgasm during sex, as this can increase alkaline vaginal secretions, favouring 'boy' sperm.

B.Avoiding deep vaginal penetration so that the sperm will pass through the woman's more acidic vaginal canal, aimed at favouring 'girl' sperm. This may be achieved by the couple using the face to face missionary position with shallow penetration at the time of ejaculation.

NOTE : Men should not try to expose themselves to substances that may reduce their fertility in the hope it will favour 'girl' sperm. Smoking, heat around the testes, some medications and other 'fertility toxins' can reduce a man's overall fertility, possibly to the point that he is unable to fertilise an egg at all (let alone a baby girl).

1.First of all, add one year to however old you are right now. You're 32 years old right now? According to the Chinese calendar, you're at least 33 (possibly 34). This is because the Chinese count the first nine months spent in the womb towards the baby's age, unlike in the West. So when a baby is born, it's already 1 year old according to the lunar calendar.

2.If you were born after February 22, take your Gregorian age, add 1 (from the roughly year you spent in your mother's womb), and you're done. If you're 17 and you were born on July 11, you're 18 according to the lunar calendar.

3.If you were born before February 22, find out if your birthday comes before or after the Chinese New Year during the year you were born. If you were born before the Chinese New Year, add an additional year to your Gregorian age.

Example, you were born on January 7, 1990; the Chinese New Year during 1990 happened on January 27, meaning you were born before the New Year, according to the lunar calendar. This makes you two years older, in lunar years, than you are according to the Gregorian calendar.

4.If you're having trouble converting your Gregorian age to your lunar age, search for an online converter.

B.Determine the lunar month during which the baby was conceived. If the baby has not yet been conceived, determine the month that you would like the baby to be conceived, or just work backward: use the calendar and desired gender to determine when you should conceive.

The easiest way to convert the actual month or the desired month of conception to the lunar calendar is to use an online converter. Type in "Gregorian to lunar calendar conversion,"

C.Using the graph below, find the place where your lunar age and the child's conception month intersect. Start from your lunar age at the time of conception and move right until you find the lunar month when the child conceived. This will give you either a G (girl) or B (Boy).

2.Additional Information

A.Use the birth chart to try to select which gender you ideally want. While many families use the Chinese birth chart after a child has been conceived, some couples look to the birth calendar before conception to select a boy or girl specifically. Whatever gender your child is, you're sure to love them; but what if you could figure it all out beforehand?

B.Remember that accurate readings always involve the Chinese lunar calendar and dates based on the time of conception :

1.Birth charts that don't use the lunar calendar as a guide aren't accurate. Beware of readings that use the Gregorian Calendar

2.Be sure to select dates based on the date of conception, especially when considering age. Select how old you were at the time of conception, not how old you currently are.

C.Know that there is no scientific basis to the Chinese birth chart. Science has been unable to verify the accuracy of the Chinese birth chart, so be careful using the chart solely to determine or predict the gender of your child. There are several ways to scientifically predict the gender of your unborn baby — ultrasound, amniocentesis[1] — but the Chinese birth chart is not one of them.

This pain is due to the release of the egg from the follicle at ovulation time. Types of ovulation pain may vary and you have to pay attention to the one that relates to ovulation which is sharp. If your pain has more a dull or cramp-like quality, you are either before or after ovulation respectively.

So, remember:

Sharp pain = ovulation

Dull achiness = before ovulation

Cramping= after ovulation

Do keep in mind that most women do not feel anything. If this is you, then try to closely monitor your cervical mucus and as soon as you notice a shift from egg white to creamy or sticky, you have ovulated.

Another way is to check the position of your cervix, which gets higher and less open and soft after ovulation has occurred.

If you are tracking your basal body temperature, you will notice a temperature shift in your morning temperature to higher values. This is the temperature spike in your ovulation chart.

Step 5: When to Have Intercourse When trying Conceiving A Girl

If you want trying to conceive a girl you must have intercourse only once before ovulation 3-5 days before and only once right after ovulation, that is right after the egg has been released.

Do not have unprotected intercourse again unless you are 100% sure you are no longer fertile. This important because you do not want to introduce new fresh male sperm into the picture.

If you are charting your BBT you will be safe (that is, non fertile) after three days of continued high temperature.

Step 6: Supplements for trying Conceiving a Girl

Consider taking additional calium and magnesium. You may need as much as 1,000 mg of calcium with 500 mg of magnesium daily.

Also, I strongly recommend acidophilus with cranberry extract. This is excellent in preventing yeast infection as well. An acidic vagina is more prone to developing yeast overgrowth and taking acidophilus will help prevent this risk.

Step 7: Using Ovulation Predictor Kits While Conceiving a Girl

I do recommend using a good ovulation predictor kit and it should be used as often as possible to detect the exact time of ovulation.

I definitely prefer Ovacue, which is allows you to take many reading just using your saliva.

This is just my preference for practical reasons, you can use the one you already have. If you do not have one, consider learning more about using a saliva ovulation monitor like Ovacue.
